Book time!

I have a fabulous and delightful friend who is considering moving to London for a bit. While she will right now remain nameless, due to the fact that this information could accidentally get to her boss and get me in trouble, I think she needs some reading material to help her get prepped for London life.

Any suggestions?

And, don't say Bridget Jones.

Some Lauren Henderson, perhaps? She writes excellent London-centred books. The Sam Jones series ("Dead White Female" onwards) are excellent "Tart Noir" books, and if she has an aversion to crime fiction there are "My Lurid Past", "Don't Even think About It" and "Exes Anonymous", which are more chicklit in style.
(As ever, let me know if you want to borrow...)

Obvious but true... a London A-Z will let her see all those places she's heard/read about with some sense of the reality of where they are.
After 16 years I'm still discovering new places n' how to get there.

Possibly... Bridget Jones?

'Salaam Brick Lane' by Tarquin Hall is all the rage at the moment ('A year in the new East End').

Also, 'Oliver Twist'!

I think any of the Sarah Waters novels would be great. Even though they are not contemporary London they are still brilliant...

Is it me? Am I the one thinking of moving to London? Because right now that's sounding pretty good; the sort of crazy thing I just might do to make my debts really dangerous (as opposed to merely crushing). My memory is spotty. If it's me feel free to say so. I don't think my boss would take it too seriously. Last week I was talking about going to Newfoundland for God's sake!

By far the best book would be 'The Diary of Nobody' by George and Weedon Grossmith
